Craig Federighi Explains How to Turn Off Face ID in Emergency Condition

The Face ID security system on iPhone X still gives some fundamental questions from Apple Fanboy. Especially the security section, for example in the case of theft or perhaps a ban.

Because until 3 November 2017 the iPhone X device has not been sold by Apple, some users are still guessing around the security part of Face ID.

But Keith Krimbel did a pretty creative thing, he emailed Craig Federighi (Apple SVP Software Engineering) directly with some questions about Face ID.

One of the questions he gave Craig about was the security of Face ID.

Take for example you are required to give iPhone X to the thief or maybe the police who want to take your personal data and forced to stare at the screen (make the lock Face ID).

Craig explained, iPhone X users can turn off the Face ID feature quickly by pressing the button on the left and right side of the iPhone X Volume Button Up and Volume Button Down and Side Button.

In that way Face ID will enter in disable mode, iPhone X can only be opened using Passcode Lock.

If you grip the buttons on both sides of the phone when you hand it over, it will temporarily disable Face ID.

The second question given to Craig is around iPhone device users who wear glasses.

Is Face ID capable of accurately mapping the user's face with 30,000 IR points and still recognizing it even with glasses? The answer is quite surprising that Face ID can still work smoothly for most of the glasses.

“With most, but not all. Most sunglasses let through enough IR (Infra-red) light that Face ID can see your eyes even when the glasses appear to be opaque. It’s really amazing!”

In accordance with the above quotation, most of the sunglasses lenses remain impenetrable by infrared light (IR) that is invisible to the eye and performs face recognition.

Even under faded glasses conditions, Face ID can still do its job well to recognize the user's face. Interesting yes!

I personally feel quite amazed with the ability Face ID described Craig Federighi can penetrate the sunglasses and of course can be turned off easily.

That means the TrueDepth Camera system on iPhone X has been created by Apple with a variety of sensors and artificial intelligence to provide maximum convenience, and security for the users.

How do you feel about Face ID? Do you have anything else that remains a hidden question? Please write in the comment field yes!
